Mug Meticulosity
What's the deal? This mug from Starbucks' <i>Akeelah and the Bee</i> promotion lists "meticulosity" as an adjective -- but then directly contradicts itself by saying it is "extreme attention to detail." An adjective (<i>meticulous</i>) would be defined as "extreme<b>ly attentive</b> to detail."
It was my linguist friend Renee whose meticulosity first picked this up, but I was pedantic enough to look the word up. The Random House Unabridged, American Heritage Unabridged, and Word-Net all list "meticulosity" as a noun, interchangeable with "meticulousness."
Someone at Starbucks was either lacking in meticulosity or abounding with dry wit.
